My Town Shoot Out - Incongruous

This week, Mary of Traveling Hammer suggested the topic "INCONGRUOUS: Meaning: Out of place, ridiculous, inconsistent, contradictory" I encourage you to go and see everyone's contributions here!
I live in a city with MANY strip malls - the bane of individualism. However, we do have our share of incongruity, where you have to wonder what the landlord was thinking when he assigned the spaces.
To the left, a gym, to the right a liquor store - 2 doors more to the right is a donut shop...Same strip mall - Beauty College on the right, Paint store on the left - really one in the same, no?On the left an earthquake preparedness shop, on the right a ceramic painting place - and I KNOW they don't use any of that Quake Putty there...Golf ball in an abandoned lot - not anywhere close to a golf course.Beautiful tree shot from same abandoned lot, at the back of a parking lot where likely no one will enjoy it.And the next few are all in the parking lot of my grocery store, and every time I see this it makes me wonder. From the far left, McDonald's, Dairy Queen, Papa John's Pizza, and in the middle of this strip mall - MediFast (a weight loss place). From the left, starting with MediFast, Subway Sandwich Shop, and Taco Bell. Seriously, 5 places in a row, only 12 parking spaces right in front, and they put MediFast in the middle? This is the other end of that same paring lot with Back Forty Texas BBQ and Papa Murphy's Take-n-Bake Pizza. Well I was also planning on going for the restaurants next to veterinarians, but I know another Shooter hit that a few weeks back with Outdoor Food theme. I hope you all enjoy the weekend!

Hey! That's my golf ball! My wife bought me a new driver, and I hit a few balls out back. I never thought I could hit it as far as California. I thought it would land somewhere in Arizona. Thanks for finding it, though.

I like the golf ball in the abandoned lot. How funny. Maybe Gordon really did hit it there. haha

Yes, I like the golf ball shot, too. And the diet shop in the middle of all those food outlets!

I also find it ironic in the midst of all the fast food eateries we can find the weight loss businesses...

I knew a man once who would take tennis balls he kept finding in his yard (no park near), and built an art sculptor out of it since it was such a mystery...

Great post!

Wonderful take on the theme -- the odd juxaposition of stores. Many lives ago, I was in Dallas and saw a street and wanted to take a picture but didn't have a camera. Moving down the street in order were: 1. County jail, 2. Bailbondsman, 3. Liguor store, 4. Gun store. And we wonder why people get re=arrested.

I think the tree is hiding back there discreetly because otherwise it might get noticed and cut down. Poor thing!
Junk food and weight loss shops: two great wastes that go great together! Only in the US...

Too funny J9. You just gotta wonder what their thinking when they assign spaces in these malls.

Or maybe they just have a great sense of humor!

I think all of the fast food joints and the diet center are owned by an wealthy evil scientist who experiments on human will power...

You were thinking the same way as Barry and I about the thoughtlessness that goes into creating shopping places! More owners from local communities might make our shopping areas more relevant to the shoppers and to the store (restaurant) owners as well. I have to agree with NanU's observations too. Nevertheless, it turns out to be a wonderfully incongruous place! You captured the theme perfectly. I enjoyed coming by today. Thank you.

I'm glad you noticed and appreciated that tree. I feel better now!

That's pretty funny - I guess with neighbors like that, the weight loss place will never have to worry about running out of potential customers :)

MediFast among fast food. Interesting.

Kate's comment is right on. The people who run the weight loss clinic probably paid a premium to get that spot.

I know I already left a comment but I just wanted to thank you for visiting my blog and leaving your comment. Being new to this it means alot to me. I love that secret door too, mind you, you can't open it - I think the wall would fall down lol!

A lot of malls to choose from. I like the way you interpret your photo presentation about this week's theme. Until next Friday

Wow! That's a lot of places to eat!

Reminds me of the magazines - there will be all these food articles, and then those will be followed by weight loss articles...huhn...laugh

this is too funny. quess a good place for a weight reduction place is right at the junk food strip and the ice cream next to the exercise gym is a classic.

All these fast food places, you don't have to cook?

My son's old primary school had an alcohol outlet opened just next to it. They had parents protesting, but the protests fell on deaf ears. No wonder New Zealand is a country of alcoholics.

When I was in Singapore, I lived on the university campus. Some of the professors, (you think they should know better) were putting at the places of residents Again more protests, and no actions. So whenever a ball came near us, we kept it.

May be your ball came from Singapore LOL.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Those poor Medifast clients don't stand a chance! It must be a conspiracy.

I hate strip malls. You are so right about the odd mixes in them.

Gordon, my husband says that is his golf ball. Are you ready to rumble?

Hey, J9, see how far you can hit it. Be sure and put your initials on it. Let's see if it ends up in Maryland or Florida.
