My Town Shoot Out - Birds

his week's shoot out theme is courtesy of Scriptor Senex of Rambles from my Chair. "Whilst visiting some of the town bloggers, I had noticed that photographing birds in the garden was a popular pastime so my first thought was to suggest a subject of garden birds. But then I realised that not everyone has the equipment to photograph the real things.
That made me look out for alternatives and I noticed sculptures, posters, little models and various other things with birds on them so I hope that your town will prove equally productive and am really looking forward to seeing your birds (real or otherwise)."
I encourage you to go and see everyone's contributions here or here.

These are not in my town, but I did take these while on vacation in Yellowstone a couple of summers ago.

A Crow taking flight, and I think one of the cooler ones I've taken:

I simply adore that feeder/ Would it work with sparrows?

Im with Ann, I love that feeder for the smaller birds, they fight with the parrots for my seeds would be nice if they were able to come seperate.... what is it a mesh stocking?

I love your blue jay - I think this is the 3rd time I've said that - your photo shows him very up close and personal... I like that.

The majestic and proud gull at the end, looking down! And the crow taking flight is indeed cool -- looks menacing. Oddly enough, my verification word is "photeep"

You have some nice clear shots here. The angle of that last shot makes in interesting. The blackbird in flight is just awesome. And so many finches in one shot...but the one I really love is the little chick all soft and fluffy.

Love those pelicans flying overhead, J9!

The feeder in my neighbors yard is really a mesh bag, and I'm guessing would work for any bird light enough to land on it, and as long as the holes in the mesh were big enough for the feed. It reminds me of those bags you use for delicates in your laundry.

The photo of the black bird taking flight is awesome. I also really like the fluffy little chick. All of the photos are fantastic, though.

The crow taking off almost reminded me of a spider, dancing on its toes. An amazing shot.

I also loved the photo of the Mountain Jay, so different from the ones we have here in the EAstern Woodlands.

I like your "in flight" photos, the crow and the pelicans. And the fluffy chick.

The last picture is amazing. You must have a great camera to zoom in so good. I am just trying to take good photos and have learned a lot, but far from getting good.

Yes, that gull is GREAT, and the crow is my favorite bird and you've captured it so well, but i'm goin' for the goldfinches at the feeder. Especially good shoot-out.

Like Doreen, it's hard to pick a favourite but I do love the Heron and am amazed at the number of birds on your neighbour's feeder. Thanks for taking part.
