My Town Shoot Out - BART

So I spent all week racking my brain trying to decide what exactly I would shoot for this week's My Town Shoot Out, because this week had no theme! I am saving a particular subject for the week I get to pick. Tonight I finally figured it out, and the shots were all taken between 8:00 and 9:00 PM on Thursday from the BART Platform at the Dublin/Pleasanton Station. I took some inspiration from Ed who showed some lightning shots this week, and played with darkness and light.

Want to see what everyone is doing for this week? You can find us all in the comments of Patty or Reggie Girl's Blogs, or in the sidebar from Gordon or GingerV.
This first shot was taken looking West after dusk, but you can still see a bit of color in the sky. On the Left side of the photo is Pleasanton, and on the Right side is Dublin. the platform sits between the East and West directions of the 580 Freeway, and was VERY windy and cold! This is looking at Chevy's in Pleasanton, Southwest from where I stood.Oracle has a campus a short walk from the station, looking Southeast.Looking Northeast, the Dublin side houses a Regal IMAX Cinema and large shopping center that looks just like far too many others dotting the highways of America. All of the stores are chains, and it's all very homogenized...The outbound side of the platform, and a train heading to San Francisco. It takes about an hour by train to get to SF.This shot is the inside of a nearly empty train, and I filtered it to make it look more bleak.I altered the lighting on this shot to make it look much grittier than it really is. This is the suburbs, and the station is pretty clean. This is the empty bike rack. It it usually pretty full during the workday, but by the time I got there, everyone was already home from work. The final image is the entrance to the station from the Dublin side - lighted glass brick pillars. I like glass brick, and it is going to be a part of the dream house, where I will live.

Happy Friday all!

-Hi J9. That was my first ever look at BART. It was very informative. You did a great job with the photos. I would like to see a video when it is busy. We don't have a lot of mass transit like that in Florida. I guess it's because we southerners don't get overly excited about being on time. Thanks for the great post. Gordon

Gordon,
Thanks for the comment, and I love BART because it is still cheaper than driving to the city and paying for parking, and I don't have to hassle with the traffic! We take it to ball games, theater, and anytime we just want to go and hang out. It goes all over the Bay Area, with planned expansions to the South Bay, though it does currently hook up with SamTrans, and it goes to SFO and OAK airports, so that's nice!

Wonderful night shots! I tried some night shots a few weeks ago and realized how hard they are to pull off. You've done masterfully!

What a great idea, the world at night is transformed by its light display. And BART looks like a wonderful way to get around. Very similar to our GO system.

I love these night shots. I love the the place is empty. The empty train car and the stairs, are my favorite. I found the open shoot harder. I guess I like being told what to do :)

Sunshine and blessings for a wonderful weekend!

Aww B&B, that's very nice of you, and it brought a smile to my face!

Barry,
I think you are right, it is very similar to Go, and to other urban/suburban transport.

Gigi,
I liked the deserted feel of it too!

Reggie Girl,
Thank you! I did want something out of the ordinary for this week!

I love night shots and I love your timed theme. Sounds like 24. "These shots were taken between..."

The indoor photos were especially nice without people. They reminded me of some end-of-the world movie I once saw.

Great job, J9.

Patty,
Thank you. I was thinking of doing this again in the summer from another location, just to see what I can come up with.

GigiSxm,
Thank you, and I do wish I lived closer to your locale, especially last night in the cold wind!

Great pictures - your bleak filtering / lighting certainly works to evoke a sense of desolation.

Thanks Rachel! That was the goal, and I'm glad you saw it too!
